Newcastle United delay announcement following the passing of Kevin Keegan

Newcastle United are mourning the death of Kevin Keegan, one of their greatest-ever figures.

Newcastle United have delayed the launch of their 2026/27 Adidas away kit following the passing of club legend and icon Kevin Keegan.

The shirt was due to go on sale at the club store from 9am on Tuesday but has now been postponed until Friday as the club pays tribute to Keegan, who sadly died on Monday after a battle with cancer.

The Magpies are inviting supporters to leave tributes at the South West Corner of St James’ Park with the stadium bowl currently closed due to maintenance.

Newcastle United postpone away kit release after Kevin Keegan passing

A club statement read: “We have been deeply moved by the many tributes being paid to Kevin Keegan and know that many supporters will wish to honour his memory at St. James’ Park.

“Those who would like to leave flowers, scarves or other tributes can do so at the South West Corner of the stadium. We kindly ask everyone to follow the directions of club staff when visiting.

“While we understand that many people would like to enter the stadium, we are unfortunately unable to open the stadium bowl at this time due to ongoing works taking place within the bowl and overhead. We appreciate your understanding as we continue to ensure the safety of everyone.

“We will be providing details shortly on where supporters can sign a book of condolence.

“Please also note that the scheduled launch of the club's new away kit, due to be tomorrow, has been postponed until Friday.”

Videos have also surfaced online showing the new kits in storage at the club shop prior to going on official sale. The kit is a patterned dark blue with white trim. It features the Adidas trefoil logo, and perhaps its most notable feature is its use of a retro club crest.

The shirt adopts the Newcastle club crest used from 1976 to 1983. The circular crest features a magpie standing in front of a castle over a river with the words ‘Newcastle United Football Club’ around the perimeter.

Eddie Howe’s side face Gateshead in a pre-season friendly on Saturday, where the new away kit could make its debut.
