Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce provides transfer update as January window enters final few days

Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce has hinted he may well look to find a striker this week after his side drew an FA Cup blank against Oxford United.

The Magpies struggled to break down their League One opponents in the fourth round, and will have to do it all again in a week and a half.

And after watching his side fail to trouble the scorers at St James’s Park, Bruce has admitted his frustrations in the final third, with Andy Carroll, Dwight Gayle and Yoshinori Muto all OUT.

"I can't change the forward area,” said Bruce ahead Friday’s January window shutting.

“We are limited but we should still have enough to beat Oxford. That needs to change in the next couple of weeks.”

On transfers, he continued: “We’re still trying. It’s a shame the other boy (Valentino Lazaro) couldn't get done in time. He will give us more quality.

“We have a couple of plates spinning."
