Newcastle United & Bournemouth to miss out on financial boost following FA Cup TV decision
Newcastle United latest news: Newcastle United’s FA Cup tie with Bournemouth will not be shown on TV in the United Kingdom.
Newcastle United’s FA Cup 3rd Round clash with Bournemouth will not be shown on live TV in the United Kingdom.
The Magpies host Eddie Howe’s former side on Saturday 10 January with kick-off scheduled for 3pm at St James’ Park. The match, which is one of 32 ties to be played across that weekend, will be one of a handful to not be shown live on TV or streamed online.
The Magpies have been knocked out of the FA Cup by Premier League opposition in both of their last two outings in the competition. Those defeats came against Brighton in the Fifth Round last season and a loss against Manchester City in the last-eight a season prior.
Bournemouth look set to pose a stern test of Newcastle United’s credentials in the new year and enjoy a very good record against the Magpies in recent times. In fact, Howe hasn’t won a single Premier League game against the Cherries as Newcastle United manager.
His only victory against his former employers during that time came back in December 2022 when United overcame the Cherries in a Carabao Cup clash at St James’ Park. Although they were reliant on an own goal that day to seal their progress to the next round.
Next month’s clash against Andoni Iraola’s side, though, comes just less than a year after they were humbled by Bournemouth in the Premier League on Tyneside. At the time, the Magpies had won nine straight matches in all competitions, including a win over Bromley in the FA Cup.
However, a 4-1 defeat by Bournemouth saw their great progress come crashing to a halt. A late Milos Kerkez goal capped off a wonderful day for the visitors who saw Justin Kluivert net a hat-trick against his father’s former side.
Newcastle United miss out on FA Cup TV money
Whilst money from broadcast picks in the FA Cup pails in comparison to money clubs receive from the Premier League, all games that are shown on TV do boost the coffers of the clubs involved and the Magpies will miss out on that slice of additional revenue. And whilst lifting the trophy at Wembley will be their ultimate goal, there are financial incentives for the Magpies to progress as far as they can in the FA Cup.

The club that wins the FA Cup will net £4.15m in prize money, whilst the runners-up will net at least £3m. Again, these sums of money is far from the astronomical prize money that Newcastle United will receive for wherever they finish in the Premier League this season or for their participation in the Champions League, however, £4m could be the ultimate difference between passing and failing the Premier League’s financial rules and maximising the revenue they receive from all sources will be key for them to progress in future seasons.
