'100%' - Bruno Guimaraes addresses Newcastle United fitness concern ahead of 2026 World Cup

Bruno Guimaraes has taken to Instagram to react to Newcastle United’s ‘frustrating’ 202526 season.

Bruno Guimaraes has vowed to be back to ‘100%’ after explaining his withdrawal during Newcastle United’s 2-0 final day defeat at Fulham on Sunday.

The Magpies ended the campaign 12th in the Premier League table, the club’s lowest finish since Guimaraes’ arrival in January 2022.

After the match, Guimaraes admitted he was not fully fit as he was forced off in the second half.

Despite being injured between February and April, Guimaraes ended the season as Newcastle’s top Premier League goalscorer with nine goals.

Bruno Guimaraes withdrawal

Guimaraes was withdrawn in the 66th minute at Craven Cottage after going down in some discomfort. The score was 1-0 at the time following Issa Diop’s first half opener.

Tom Cairney added a second in the closing stages of the match to condemn Newcastle to another defeat.

Reflecting on his withdrawal, Guimaraes said on Instagram: “I had a fever for two days during the week, and during today's match I felt cramps in both calves! Nothing to worry about. Time to rest and recover so I can be 100% again.”

‘A very frustrating season’

The midfielder also thanked fans for their support during the 2025/26 campaign.

“A very frustrating season, and without a doubt we are all very disappointed,” Guimaraes wrote. “You fans definitely did not deserve this. But football doesn’t always go the way we plan.

“Individually, I managed to have the season with the most goal contributions in my career, and I would trade all of that for a better position in the table.

“Honestly, I just want to thank the fans for everything. Thank you @nufc.”

The 28-year-old midfielder is set to join up with the Brazil squad for the 2026 World Cup in North America this summer. He is one of eight players representing Newcastle at the tournament.

Anthony Gordon, Dan Burn and Tino Livramento have been called up to the England squad, Malick Thiaw and Nick Woltemade are representing Germany, Anthony Elanga is in the Sweden squad and Yoane Wissa is going away with DR Congo.
