'Delighted' - Ross Wilson strikes first Newcastle United summer deal hours after Premier League finale

Lewis Miley has committed his future to boyhood club Newcastle United for another six years.

Lewis Miley has penned a bumper new contract to tie him to Newcastle United until 2032.

The 20-year-old - currently sidelined with a broken leg - made 34 appearances during the 2025-26 campaign. Eddie Howe utilised Miley in midfield as well as a new-found position of right-back.

He has been the standout academy graduate during Howe’s four-and-a-half years at St James’ Park. Miley joined the Magpies aged seven and has committed his future for a further six years.

This marks the first major move in what is expected to be a busy summer on Tyneside. Howe previously told reporters that he expects Miley to return near the start of the new Premier League campaign.

Newcastle United announce contract

“Newcastle United are delighted to announce that Academy graduate Lewis Miley has signed a new long-term contract with the club,” a club announcement read. “The 20-year-old has penned a six-year deal to keep him at St James' Park until 2032.

“Lewis, an England Under-21 international, joined the Academy aged seven and rapidly progressed through the ranks to become the club's youngest ever appearance maker in both the Premier League and UEFA Champions League.

“He also holds the club record for youngest goalscorer in both competitions, memorably netting against Fulham at the Gallowgate End as a 17-year-old in late 2023. His towering header away to Bayer Leverkusen earlier this season further cemented his place in the history books, replacing Hugo Viana’s Champions League record which had stood since 2002.

“Lewis featured 34 times during the 2025-26 campaign, which saw him adapt seamlessly to a new right-back role, taking his Magpies tally to 80 appearances in all competitions for his boyhood club. He ended the season with the highest amount of minutes played by any English teenager in the Premier League.”

Lewis Miley reaction

On signing a new deal, Miley added: “I'm really pleased to sign this new contract and commit my future here. It's a dream to be representing Newcastle United, so this is a proud moment for me.

“I'm really grateful to everybody who has played a part in helping me get to where I am today, especially the support of my family and the trust that the club has put in me from such a young age.”
