Newcastle United take cheeky dig at Bayer Leverkusen ahead of Champions League clash - this could age badly
Newcastle United have made a social media dig at Bayer Leverkusen ahead of their big Champions League match at the BayArena.
Newcastle United are away to Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League on Wednesday evening (8pm kick-off GMT).

The Magpies head into the game having taken nine points from their opening five matches in the competition, knowing one more win would likely be enough to secure progress to the next phase of the competition.
Newcastle lost 2-1 to Marseille in the Champions League last month and will be looking to bounce back in Leverkusen.
Newcastle United take aim at Leverkusen - again
Newcastle’s Champions League matches have been accompanied by ‘Club 18-92’ social media posts via the club’s official channels. The ‘Club 18-92’ videos feature Newcastle players in a parody of old tourism adverts from the 80s and 90s.
The latest ‘Club 18-92’ video, Newcastle poked fun at Leverkusen by listing all the ‘wonderful’ things to do in Leverkusen, only to have the screen cut to black. It’s the second time the club have made a tongue-in-cheek dig at the German city with their ‘Club 18-92’ videos.
In the first video released by the club, Newcastle defender Dan Burn enthusiastically mentioned the trips to Brussels, Marseille and Paris before adding in a monotone ‘and Leverkusen’ at the end.
And it could age badly just hours ahead of the game at the BayArena.

A previous video has also taken aim at Newcastle’s local rivals Sunderland.
In a video released ahead of the Benfica match in October, Newcastle showed images of the Scotswood Bridge, Newburn Bridge and the Tyne Bridge followed before an image of the Monkwearmouth Railway Bridge in Sunderland was met with a record scratch and the narrator stating: “No need to go across this one, there’s no Champions League over there.”
The word ‘shan’ (slang for unfair or harsh) then popped up on the screen in a reminder that Sunderland have never played in the Champions League or European Cup in their history. The Black Cats’ European history is limited to just four Cup Winners’ Cup matches in the 1973/74 season.
They just so happen to be Newcastle’s next Premier League opponents at the Stadium of Light on Sunday.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Newcastle United post
In contrast, Leverkusen made reference to Newcastle in their own matchday preview post.
The Bundesliga club wrote: “Howay the lads. Newcastle are in toon. #B04NEW.”
A far more welcoming message than the tongue-in-cheek dig made by The Magpies on social media ahead of the game.
