Newcastle United give five players green light to leave the club this summer as £24m deal agreed
Newcastle United transfers: Two more first team players will be allowed to leave Newcastle this summer.
Newcastle United are set for a busy summer transfer window with several departures already confirmed.
Kieran Trippier, Emil Krafth, Matt Targett, Aaron Ramsdale, John Ruddy and Max Thompson’s departures were confirmed when the club released its retained list earlier this month.
The Magpies have also sold Anthony Gordon to Barcelona for £70million. The club are, however, closing in on a first signing of the summer with 20-year-old goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen set to join from Stade de Reims in a deal worth up to £24.6million.
Jaouen’s arrival is set to continue a summer shake-up in the goalkeeping department at Newcastle. With Ramsdale, Ruddy and Thompson leaving the club, Nick Pope and Mark Gillespie are the only recognised senior goalkeepers on the books.
Gillespie has signed a new contract but will remain a training-ground goalkeeper rather than a player providing serious competition for Pope between the sticks. But with Pope heading into the final year of his contract, he’s one of several players who could be allowed to leave this summer.

Nick Pope
As revealed by The Gazette last week, Newcastle will consider cashing in on Pope this summer with his current deal set to expire in 12 months.
Newly-promoted Ipswich Town, Pope's boyhood club, are interested in the player and talks have taken place between the two clubs. Pope would be open to leaving Newcastle to join Ipswich and is understood to have even discussed taking a pay cut in order to do so.
While nothing has been agreed, Newcastle will listen to offers for Pope this summer with a £5million move to Ipswich discussed.
Odysseas Vlachodimos
Sticking with goalkeepers, Odysseas Vlachodimos spent last season on loan at Sevilla and has spoken openly about wanting to leave Newcastle in order to play regular first-team football.
It’s clear the Greek international is not part of Eddie Howe’s plans, meaning he will be allowed to leave should a suitable offer come in. Newcastle paid £20million to Nottingham Forest for Vlachodimos in 2024 in a PSR-influenced deal but the goalkeeper has made just one competitive appearance for the club as a substitute in the Carabao Cup win over AFC Wimbledon.
Sevilla could return to sign Vlachodimos again given his positive loan spell in Spain. But as things stand, he is still a Newcastle player.
Joe Willock
Similar to Pope, Willock is heading into the final year of his contract at Newcastle and is unlikely to sign a new deal.
There has been tentative Premier League interest in Willock in previous transfer windows from the likes of Crystal Palace and Fulham. Newcastle will listen to offers and Willock will be allowed to leave should a suitable bid come in.
Harrison Ashby
Harrison Ashby joined Newcastle alongside Anthony Gordon back in January 2023. Yet the 24-year-old defender has managed to go through Gordon’s entire spell as a Newcastle player without making a competitive appearance for the club.
The former West Ham United youngster has spent the past three seasons out on loan and will be allowed to leave the club once again.
Joe White
Newcastle’s third senior returning loan player, Joe White had a difficult spell out on loan at Bradford City in League One along with Ashby. He was limited to just one start back in January and didn’t make a matchday squad during the final months of the season.
