Newcastle United double injury boost to full-back and striker - both made available to leave

Newcastle United have received a double injury boost - but it’s not regarding Yoane Wissa and Tino Livramento.

Newcastle United are hoping Tino Livramento and Yoane Wissa will be back from injury following the November international break.

But there are two other players who have now returned to action following injury absences.

Wissa has been out for over two months and is yet to make his Newcastle debut following his £55million move from Brentford due to a knee injury picked up on international duty. A few weeks later, Livramento picked up a knee injury in Newcastle’s 2-1 defeat to Arsenal and has been out of action since.

Both players have been back on the grass and are pushing to be in contention in the matches following the international break. The Magpies return to action on November 22 at home to Manchester City in the Premier League.

On Wissa, Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe said heading into the break: “Yoane's working well. He's on the grass, he's building his fitness. I think the knee's feeling good, no problems with that.

“It's more a case of looking at his fitness, sharpness, all the things that he's going to need to put together. He's in a good place injury-wise now to really kick on and push his body.

“But we're going to need to give him time to get fit and robust enough. And in a position where he can give his best version of himself for the team. So how long that takes is slightly unclear. But yeah, I'm sure it'll be worth the wait.”

While Wissa could be available for Newcastle within the next few weeks, the side risk losing him once again with the African Cup of Nations taking place between December and January. A positive AFCON for DR Congo could see Wissa miss up to seven games, should he go away with his country.

Livramento has established himself as a key player in Howe’s side as both a right-back and left-back. Dan Burn will be suspended for the Manchester City match following his red card at Brentford, which gives Lewis Hall an opportunity to start his first Premier League match at St James’ Park since February.

But Newcastle will be hoping to have Livramento back available as an option for that game too.

NUFC low-key double injury boost confirmed - but both could leave in January

While there is still uncertainty surrounding Wissa and Livramento’s returns, two players who were back in action after injuries are Harrison Ashby and Ben Parkinson.

Ashby had not been seen since pre-season due to a groin issue but made his return for Newcastle Under-21s in a 3-2 win over Burnley in the Premier League 2. The 23-year-old has spent the past two seasons on loan in the Championship and was set to be available to leave on loan once again in the summer, but a move failed to materialise.

Ashby is still yet to make his competitive debut for Newcastle almost three years after joining the club from West Ham United but has been named in the club’s Premier League squad for the 2025/26 campaign, so he is an eligible full-back option if needed.

Parkinson has played one competitive game for Newcastle but has been hit with injuries over the past couple of seasons. Despite that, Parkinson was still able to contribute 12 goals in 16 appearances at Under-21s level last season.

But the start against Burnley Under-21s marked the 20-year-old’s return to action after a long-term injury absence.

Given the age and profile of both players as well as them now returning to fitness, Newcastle will listen to offers for them in January with loan moves likely. Newcastle had made Parkinson available for a loan last January before an injury blocked any potential departure.
