Matthias Jaissle makes 'quality' Newcastle United transfer claim moments after AFC Bournemouth draw

Newcastle United 2-2 AFC Bournemouth: Goals from Harvey Barnes and Jacob Ramsey saw the Magpies come from 2-0 down at St James’ Park.

Newcastle United came from 2-0 down to rescue a point against AFC Bournemouth at St James’ Park on Saturday afternoon.

Marcus Tavernier and a Malick Thiaw own goal put Bournemouth in a commanding position after 35 minutes but Harvey Barnes’ stunning goal kept Newcastle in the match as the sides went in 1-2 at half-time.

The Magpies improved in the second half and finally found an equaliser through substitute Jacob Ramsey in the 88th minute. It sees Matthias Jaissle’s unbeaten start as head coach continue after four games.

‘Mixed feelings’ for NUFC boss

Speaking to Match of the Day after the game, Jaissle said: “I have mixed feelings. But after that start, you should be happy. But if we could have performed at the best level over 90 minutes, we could have had all three points.

"We couldn't match Bournemouth's intensity in the first half and conceded twice. That's something you could avoid. But I'm proud of the team to have shown the reaction.

"We were clear it would be a tough, tough game. If you look at our history against Bournemouth, it was never going to be easy. We wanted to win. We need to make sure we get the three points next time.

"We will be consistent with our statements. I said from the first day, there will be ups and downs. We saw within the game today a down but also an up.”

New signing makes debut

Newcastle’s deadline day signing Matias Fernandez-Pardo came off the bench in the second half to help the home side try and get back into the game. The 21-year-old, who joined from Lille for £51million, provided fresh energy for the closing stages as the hosts grabbed a late equaliser.

It comes after the Belgian had a disrupted pre-season following his World Cup exploits.

On what to expect from the new signing, Jaissle said: “A lot of quality. It's the reason why we have signed him. He is still young but got a lot of potential. We need to be careful to manage him well because of the load. He hasn't played for 90 minutes for a long, long time. The whole club and fans can enjoy what we can expect from him in the future."
