Newcastle United co-owner Jamie Reuben delivers 77-word statement immediately after Eddie Howe departure
Newcastle United co-owner Jamie Reuben has issued a short statement following confirmation of Eddie Howe’s departure.
Newcastle United co-owner Jamie Reuben thanked Eddie Howe and his coaching staff for his ‘outstanding contribution’ to the club over the past five years.
Howe took charge of a Newcastle side sitting in the relegation zone shortly after Reuben became a minority owner of the club following the PIF-led takeover in 2021. Despite the side being winless in their opening 14 Premier League games, a record no side had ever stayed up with at the time, Howe not only led Newcastle to safety but did so with games to spare as the side ended the campaign in 11th.
The club’s momentum continued to build with a Carabao Cup final and Champions League qualification in Howe’s first full season in charge. It was Newcastle's first cup final since 1999 and first time back in the Champions League in over 20 years.

While Newcastle finished seventh and missed out on Europe the following season, there were still plenty of memorable moments with the highlight being a 4-1 Champions League group stage win over Paris Saint-Germain at St James’ Park.
But it was in Howe’s third full season in charge that everything changed for Newcastle as the side finally ended a 70-year domestic trophy drought by winning the Carabao Cup. The side then followed up the cup success by securing qualification for the Champions League for the second time in three seasons.
What followed was a bruising summer spearheaded by the transfer saga and eventual exit of Alexander Isak. Newcastle’s form and performances suffered in the season that followed as they limped to a 12th-place finish in the Premier League, their lowest since the takeover. Away from that, Newcastle reached the Carabao Cup semi-final, the last-16 of the FA Cup and the knockout stages of the Champions League for the first time.
On the whole, Howe’s time at Newcastle will be regarded as a huge success before he decided to call time on his spell.
Jamie Reuben on Eddie Howe
Following confirmation of Howe’s exit by the club, Reuben took to social media to post a short statement: “I want to personally recognise Eddie Howe’s outstanding contribution to Newcastle United.
“He joined the club at a challenging moment and, through his leadership, commitment and belief, helped lay the foundations for everything we have achieved over the past five years. I am proud to have worked alongside him and privileged to call him a friend.
