Newcastle United transfer news: Loan target plays down Tyneside move as Magpies handed transfer boost

Newcastle United have been exploring their options in the loan market this month with a few names in particular regularly linked.

But while one door closes, another one opens, and that could be the case with Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori.

Newcastle are one of the clubs, along with Leeds United and West Ham United, touted with a loan move for the England international.

And Blues boss Frank Lampard has perhaps dropped his biggest hint yet in regards to the player’s short-term future.

“Fikayo Tomori absolutely has a long-term future at this club, and we’ll see if and when he goes on loan,” said Lampard.

He continued: “There’s an absolute long-term plan for Fikayo in my head about his career here.

“And if it’s to go and play games it’s to absolutely enhance his personal development. Hopefully, help whatever team he goes to, because that will come hand in hand, and then come back to us a better player.”

Steve Bruce, under pressure from Magpies fans, has until 11pm on Monday, February 1, to strengthen his squad.

Although there are calls to sack the 60-year-old, his immediate future isn’t in any danger, so it’s very likely he’ll see out the remainder of the transfer window.

Meanwhile, a former Premier League loanee has played down speculation linking him with a move to St James’s Park.

Here’s a round-up of some of the other transfer rumours involving Newcastle, including Tomori, and their Premier League rivals this morning:
