Lazaro last week joined Newcastle United on a half-season loan, and the Serie A club confirmed that there was an “option” to make the move permanent.

However, Max Hagmayr, Lazaro’s agent, has revealed that Lazaro’s “first choice” is an end-of-season return to Italy. Speaking to FCInterNews, Hagmayr said: “The player’s first choice is to go back to Inter. With more time available, he wants to demonstrate that he can help the Nerazzurri club to win the Scudetto.”

Asked why Lazaro chose Newcastle amid interest from Bundesliga leaders RB Leipzig, Hagmayr said: “Newcastle have been very serious in moving the deal forward, and we’re happy with how it all went. We’re satisfied. Steve Bruce is very happy to have Valentino with him.”

Lazaro is set to make his debut in Saturday’s Premier League game against Norwich City at St James’s Park.
