Matthias Jaissle makes first 'world-class' claim as Newcastle United head coach - it's hard to disagree
Harvey Barnes scored his third goal of the season as Newcastle United drew 2-2 with AFC Bournemouth at St James’ Park on Saturday.
Matthias Jaissle hailed Harvey Barnes’ strike against AFC Bournemouth as ‘world-class’ following Newcastle United’s draw at St James’ Park.
It’s the first time Jaissle has used such praise since his arrival as Newcastle head coach.
The Magpies trailed 2-0 following a goal from Marcus Tavernier and a Malick Thiaw own goal before Barnes quickly halved the deficit before half-time.

The winger cut inside from the left and curled a stunning effort into the top right corner of the goal. It was Barnes’ third of the season following his brace against West Bromwich Albion in the Carabao Cup.

"We hadn't had a lot of joy up until that point [of the goal],” Barnes reflected on TNT Sport. “It was the first real moment where we got a bit of space as attackers and got a bit of room to do what we do. It opened up beautifully and in that position, I always want to try and come in on my right foot.
“It's one of them when it leaves your foot, you know it's finding the corner beautifully. It's what you envisage and what you want to do, it's just producing it.
“It was an important goal as well because of how the game had gone where we'd started so flat. [The goal] gave us a little bit of a boost and you saw after that the crowd were up and the players were up with more energy which set us up for the second half.”
The strike gave Newcastle the momentum to get back into the game and eventually secure a point thanks to Jacob Ramsey’s late strike in the second half.
“World-class goal,” Jaissle told The Gazette. “The typical Harvey move. In a time I couldn't have wished it more. That changed the momentum; it's also important after being 2-0 down that you show straight away the reaction, and that gave not only the players, I think also the crowd, that belief that today there is still something possible.
“And so, the goal had a huge impact.”
