Newcastle United transfer stalls after £10m bid & agent talks confirmed
Newcastle United midfielder Joe Willock has been linked with Fulham, Crystal Palace and Besiktas in recent months.
Joe Willock’s long-term future at Newcastle United remains uncertain after the Magpies reportedly rejected a £10m offer from Turkish club Besiktas.
The former Arsenal midfielder joined the Magpies in a £25m deal during the summer of 2021 after enjoying an overwhelmingly successful loan spell on Tyneside during the second half of the previous season. Since then, Willock has scored 19 goals and provided 11 assists in 182 appearances in all competitions and has featured in both of the Magpies’ Champions League campaigns in recent seasons.

However, his inability to find a consistent place in Eddie Howe’s starting eleven has led to suggestions Willock could be allowed to leave St James Park over the last 12 months and there have been reports stating Premier League rivals Crystal Palace and Fulham were keen to secure a deal to take the midfielder back to London.
However, it is Besiktas that have reportedly ramped up their interest in Willock in recent weeks and there have been claims United turned down an offer of around £10m for the former Arsenal man over the last week. One Turkish outlet have now reported Willock’s agent travelled to Istanbul and suggested the midfielder ‘approved’ the transfer - but stressed any deal won’t happen unless Newcastle lower their demands before the end of the summer transfer window.
Turkish journalist Yago Sabuncuoglu told Lupen Sports: “As you know, Besiktas brought Willock's agent to Istanbul. Meetings were held, and the player also approved the transfer. However, this transfer won't happen unless the club backs down from the transfer fee they want. If they agree to a discount on the transfer fee, Besiktas will sit down at the table again. Today, I'll share another exclusive piece of information. I don't know if it's been written about before. If it has, let's not step on anyone's toes. A midfielder from the Scandinavian Peninsula who fits the quota has been suggested to Besiktas. Besiktas’ football professionals have also reported on this player and watched him on-site. Let's keep this information here for now.”
