Eddie Howe hints at Newcastle United transfer power shift - Ross Wilson sets new blueprint
Eddie Howe was asked about Newcastle United’s transfer strategy after several young arrivals joined the club.
Eddie Howe hinted at losing influence over Newcastle United’s transfer decisions following the 1-1 draw with Gateshead.
High-profile stars like Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali left earlier this summer. Bruno Guimaraes could follow suit as the Toon skipper angles for a move to Arsenal.
Newcastle have taken a fresh approach in the market, signing four young stars with a combined age of 19.5. This is a change in tack from last year’s focus - which saw Premier League-proven stars like Yoane Wissa, Anthony Elanga and Jacob Ramsey arrive for big fees.
Many have suggested this new blueprint signals a shift in power dynamic at St James’ Park. Throughout his tenure as manager, Howe has been a strong voice in transfer discussions.

Newcastle were without an acting CEO or sporting director 12 months ago - placing further responsibility on Howe, his nephew, Andy Howe, and recruitment chief Steve Nickson. David Hopkinson and Ross Wilson have since joined the club to ease the workload on the transfer front.
‘What the club want’ - Eddie Howe
Speaking on Saturday, Howe suggested the club have outlined a new vision - and he is aligned with their plans. He told reporters: “I'm very supportive of what the club want to do. There's been a shift in terms of the profile and the age.
“Again, I think that's quite obvious. I've always believed in young players and tried to develop young players. That fits in line with my philosophy anyway.”
‘Support the new players’ - Eddie Howe
Howe also urged caution on the new additions due to their age. He added: “I think (Aladji) Bamba will bring unique qualities. He's a lovely size. He's good technically. But I think with all the signings that we've made this summer, he's going to need a little bit of time and patience.
“We all need to be very supportive to the players who have come in. I don't think we can put too much pressure on them. I think it's part of my job to try and take the pressure off them and just allow them to develop and to enjoy their time here.”
