Steve Bruce recruited just the one signing in the winter market, with Arsenal midfielder Joe Willock arriving on deadline day for the remainder of the season.
There weren’t many departures to report either with DeAndre Yedlin joining Rolando Aarons in leaving St James’s Park to Galatasaray and Huddersfield Town, respectively.
However, in terms of incomings, gossip surrounding the Magpies this morning suggests there could have been at least one more through the door.
Beginning with Ozan Kabak. According to the BBC’s Ian Dennis, Newcastle missed out on the Schalke-owned defender when they were gazumped by English champions Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp stole in to bring Turkish international to Anfield on loan with an £18million purchase option, scuppering United’s loan agreement with the Bundesliga outfit.
Bruce is thought to have wanted a central defender following recent injuries – including Federico Fernandez and Jamal Lascelles – but will have to make do with what he’s got.
Indeed, Manchester United full-back Brandon Williams is another known to be on the Magpies’ radar but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer block the 20-year-old’s exit.
As revealed by the Gazette, Newcastle had agreed the framework of a deal, in principle, to sign Williams, only for Solskjaer to change his stance.
Indeed, the Norwegian’s refusal to let Willams go, who has made just one camero appearance in the top-flight this season, impacted Newcastle, Southampton and West Ham’s transfer plans, as per The Sun.
Meanwhile, there is plenty of fallout happening from deadline day in the Premier League concerning Newcastle and their rivals:
