With both Paul Dummett and Jetro Williams ruled out for the rest of the season with serious injuries, the pressure is on for the Magpies to quickly find a quality replacement.

Bookies odds, while far from a definitive guide of transfer plans, can often offer an insight into where clubs might be looking to secure their next signing.

Sky Bet have now installed Newcastle as 4/1 favourites to sign Spurs' Danny Rose this month, ahead of the likes of West Ham United (10/1) and Manchester United (15/1).

The change in odds follows national media reports suggesting that Bruce could look to offer the former Sunderland man an escape from North London, with his game time likely to be minimal under new manager Jose Mourinho, who is set to persist with promising starlet Japhet Tanganga.

Certainly, Rose's international and European pedigree could be a real boost to the Magpies, whose encouraging run of form continued with a last-gap 2-2 draw against Everton on Tuesday evening.

The 29-year-old has racked up 29 senior caps for England, and a move to St James' Park would provide him with a fine opportunity to prove himself worthy of a place in Gareth Southgate's 23-man Euro 2020 squad ahead of the summer tournament.
