Newcastle United new signing spotted at St James' Park after completing medical

Newcastle United are set to announce the signing of Nick Woltemade from VfB Stuttgart.

The 23-year-old striker arrived at Newcastle on Thursday evening before completing his medical on Friday.

Now Woltemade has arrived at St James’ Park to finalise his £65million club-record transfer and conduct his club media duties ahead of a formal announcement.

According to head coach Eddie Howe, the forward will not be available to feature in Newcastle’s Premier League match at Leeds United on Saturday (5:30pm kick-off).

Sky Sports cameras spotted what is claimed to be Woltemade arriving at St James’ Park via a Mercedes people carrier to finalise his transfer ahead of the official announcement.

While Sky Sports technically didn’t physically capture Woltemade at St James’ Park, rather just the vehicle he arrived in, photos also leaked online showing the forward inside St James’ Park getting a tour.

After joining Newcastle, Woltemade will head off with Germany for international duty before being in contention to make his debut at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers after the international break.

And Newcastle will be hoping to have their striker situation fully resolved one way or the other by then.

Newcastle United drop striker transfer hint

While Howe remained tight-lipped on the imminent signing of Woltemade in his pre-match press conference on Friday morning, he did acknowledge the transfer.

“Not too much [to say],” he said. “Positive signs, things are moving in a good way at the moment. Until things are done, can't confirm anything but fingers crossed.

“The most important thing is we bring a striker in which is something we've been looking to do all summer.

“It’s something we’ve been working on for weeks but, as always, it’s about the right player and not any player. We’re working towards bringing in a player who we feel can bring the team forward.”

The Magpies also remain active in the transfer market and will push to land another striker before the September 1 transfer deadline.

Yoane Wissa and Jorgen Strand Larsen have both been targeted by Newcastle, who have had multiple bids rejected by Brentford and Wolves, respectively. Neither player will feature this weekend amid the transfer speculation, but both Brentford and Wolves have claimed the forwards are not for sale this summer.

Newcastle may test the resolve of Brentford in that respect. In turn Liverpool could make a fresh move for Alexander Isak.

Liverpool plot late Alexander Isak swoop

Newcastle bringing in a striker has given Liverpool more confidence that a fresh bid for Isak could be accepted after an initial £110million offer was rejected.

Should another striker arrive at St James’ Park before Monday’s deadline, Isak would likely be allowed to leave.

While Howe wouldn’t rule out a return for Isak, the Newcastle boss has effectively removed himself from the situation surrounding the striker while the transfer window is still open.

Howe and Isak haven’t spoken since the season started with the head coach admitting it would be ‘detrimental’ for him to spend any time with a player who is not willing to engage with the first-team squad.

“It would be detrimental for me to invest any more time in that situation when I've got 25, 30 players needing every ounce of energy and time, and the team needs me to focus on trying to get results,” he said. “So, that's what I've tried to do.”
