Newcastle, Rangers and Fulham have previously been linked with the 22-year-old who has one year left on his contract at Vitesse Arnhem.

According to the Telegraph, Norwich City are also among the sides lining up a swoop for Doekhi, with Rangers and the Magpies still monitoring the player’s situation.

Rob Lee hails Allan Saint-Maximin impact

Back on Tyneside, former Newcastle midfielder Rob Lee has been discussing Allan Saint-Maximin’s ‘massive’ impact since returning from injury.

After missing three games with a groin issue, the Frenchman has featured in his side’s last four games, scoring once and providing two assists.

Newcastle have picked up eight points in those fixtures, against Tottenham, Burnley, West Ham and Liverpool, with Saint-Maximin playing a big part.

“He was different class during the spell when he scored and created goals against Burnley, and just his pace and ability to go past players easily,” Lee told Football FanCast,

“He’s changed games for us massively and that’s what he’s there to do.”

Young Magpies ready for FA Youth Cup quarter-final

Finally, Newcastle’s under-18 coach Neil Winskill says his side can’t wait for Tuesday’s FA Youth Cup quarter-final against Aston Villa at St James’ Park (7pm kick-off).

Winskill told the club’s website: “It’s a brilliant ocasion for them. It’s kept the season bubbling along that we’ve got something at the end to keep playing for rather than it just fizzling out with league games.

“The lads have been excited as soon as the draw came out and they got through the last round so it’s a brilliant experience for them, they can’t wait."

The young Magpies will be hoping to emulate the FA Youth Cup winning side of 1985.
