Newcastle United first official January transfer window hint after £250m summer exodus
Matthias Jaissle has responded to whether he will push for more Newcastle United arrivals in January.
Matthias Jaissle has suggested he will push for new players in the January transfer window.
However, the German was also keen to stress his happiness at the current first-team squad. The Magpies were decimated in the summer, with Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes leaving the club.
Kieran Trippier’s exit and Eddie Howe’s resignation also added to the task. A frantic final few weeks of the window resulted in Newcastle signing Amar Dedic, Nico Gonzalez and Matias Fernandez-Pardo.
Jaissle is the man tasked with leading the on-field rebuild. Two wins, two draws and two draws have delivered mixed success that is to be expected in a transition season.
But the nature of those losses - both 4-1 away humblings - has raised concerns. It is unclear whether Newcastle have funds to spend in January under the new SCR model.
Matthias Jaissle provides transfer message
Speaking to reporters, Jaissle claimed that will not stop him from pestering Ross Wilson once the window opens. When asked if he will be “knocking the door down” for new additions, the Toon boss said: “I think this is the approach from every coach. First of all, we trust our squad, the current squad we have here.
“But there is always space and needs, usually also to improve, to bring players in where it's needed. Until January, that's still a long time.
“Many things can happen performance-wise, injury-wise, so you need to work on options throughout the whole year. But now it's also time to work with the group in the best possible way. I mention that also so, so often, that I'm really pleased and happy with that group. A young group, but really willing to learn and to improve.”
‘I’m not here’ - Matthias Jaissle
Jaissle also preferred not to discuss transfer rumours or speculation when asked about Aston Villa star Johan Manzambi. Newcastle were linked with a move for the midfielder in the summer.
“I'm not here actually to talk now about players, about rumours, about potential signings,” Jaissle added. “Again, pure focus on our players, especially ahead of the Aston Villa match now.
“So we have many, many things to do. Many, many things to improve, and that's the approach - to not get distracted by anything else.”
