Fake news - Nick Woltemade truth as Newcastle United caught in bizarre social media storm

Parody accounts on social media spread fake rumours that Newcastle United could send Nick Woltemade out on loan.

Newcastle United have no intention of loaning out club-record signing Nick Woltemade this summer.

A bizarre situation emerged on social media - fooling several Toon fans and media outlets. X accounts parodying sports journalists David Ornstein and Fabrizio Romano claimed the Magpies would listen to loan offers for Woltemade.

Multiple German sites ran with the story - presumably hoodwinked by the online noise. Later articles confirmed that they had been tricked by the fake Ornstein and Romano accounts.

Nick Woltemade truth

The Gazette can confirm that Woltemade is not for sale and features in Eddie Howe’s plans for the upcoming campaign. He returned to pre-season training today following an extended break due to his World Cup commitments.

Newcastle spent £64million to sign the German and have no intention to cash in - whether that be on loan or permanently. When stories emerge of Woltemade potentially moving on, the club have consistently downplayed the reports.

A mixed debut campaign saw Woltemade score four goals in his first five Premier League games before being shifted into midfield. The Magpies failed to get the best out of the 24-year-old, with Will Osula ending the season as first-choice striker.

Toon fans will be hoping for Woltemade to rekindle the touch that made him an instant hit at St James’ Park. He is expected to travel to Bristol City for Newcastle’s second pre-season clash.

‘No doubts’ - Nick Woltemade

Before the World Cup, Woltemade opened up about his maiden season on Tyneside and backed himself to succeed in black-and-white stripes. He said: "I moved to the Premier League at 23, the best league in the world. I've learned a lot this season. I've improved athletically. I can keep up with the tremendous pace and hold my own in challenges.

“Overall, it's been a step forward. That's why I have no doubts about Newcastle. I'll make my mark there. I'm expected to score or provide an assist in every game. But if I'm not playing in attack, it's significantly more difficult for me to get into dangerous scoring positions.

"Of course, I'm not satisfied with how things have gone in sporting terms over the past few months - especially because my start in Newcastle was so strong. That raised expectations, including for myself."
