Newcastle United outcast could get desired summer transfer amid Turkish interest & agent claim
A number of Newcastle United’s goalkeepers are facing uncertain futures at St James Park.
Newcastle United are facing some major decisions over the future of several of their goalkeepers during the summer.
Loan signing Aaron Ramsdale appears to be set to return to parent club Southampton once his season-long stay at St James Park comes to an end and veteran duo John Ruddy and Mark Gillespie are both out of contract in June. Eddie Howe confirmed academy product Max Thompson will depart this summer following Sunday’s win against West Ham United and that means Nick Pope is the only senior goalkeeper set to be part of the United squad that will return for pre-season training later in the summer.
However, the England international has been linked with a move away from Tyneside in recent months and United are expected to add to their goalkeeping ranks before hte new campaign gets underway. The future of forgotten man Odysseas Vlachodimos has also been the subject of speculation after the Greek stopper hinted he would be keen to remain with loan club Sevilla after impressing with the La Liga club during the campaign.
Speaking in an interview with ABC in February, he said: “I spoke with the manager, the president, and the sporting director about the club’s situation in La Liga. But for me, the most important thing from day one is that this experience has been a gift since I arrived. I just wanted to get back to playing and be able to give my all to the team. This place is exactly as I imagined it”
Convince

With Sevilla’s La Liga status now secured barring a remarkable set of final day results, Vlachodimos can focus on his future and it seems highly unlikely that will come with Newcastle. The former Nottingham Forest goalkeeper has made just a solitary competitive appearance since joining the Magpies in July 2024 and that seems certain to remain his only outing with a summer departure on the cards.
Sevilla are believed to be keen on a permanent deal but Turkish outlet Fotomac have now claimed Vlachodimos’ agents have told Besiktas he is willing to join the Super Lig giants if they can ‘convince’ Newcastle into a deal. They have reported the 32-year-old is on ‘a wide list’ of goalkeepers being targeted by Besiktas ahead of the summer transfer window.
