Hayden has already been ruled out for the remainder of the campaign after a knee injury in the 3-0 defeat at Brighton forced the midfielder off on a stretcher.

Despite returning to light training, the 26-year-old will not play a part in the final three games, though it does show he is on track to return in time for next season.

Fraser, a free agent signing from Bournemouth last summer, has missed the previous six games with a thigh problem.

The Scotland international has been left frustrated during his debut campaign on Tyneside – making just 18 appearances.

Head coach Steve Bruce admitted last month that United are yet to see the best of Fraser.

He said: "It has been a frustrating time for him he has never quite got up to speed and we have never seen the best of him."
