Willock and his team-mates are now focused back-to-back cup games after last night’s goalless draw against Premier League leaders Arsenal. The club is third in the table, and fans hope that the club can progress in both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup over the next week

And Willock – who joined Newcastle from Arsenal in a £25million deal in the summer of 2021 after a successful half-season loan at St James’s Park – posted a message to fans of both clubs on Instagram after the fixture at the Emirates Stadium.

The 23-year-old midfielder said: “Happy new year. This year we want to bring history back to Newcastle. Good point to start the year @nufc. Good luck for the season @arsenal.”

Willock’s latest appearance was his 101th in the Premier League. Forty of those appearances came as an Arsenal player.
