After losing three of their opening four matches, Newcastle have got things back on track since the last international break with a seven game unbeaten run which included five wins and five clean sheets.
Newcastle have climbed up to eighth in the Premier League table after eight matches while they sit top of their Champions League group after a 0-0 draw at AC Milan and 4-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain at St James’ Park. They also progressed to the last-16 of the Carabao Cup with a 1-0 win at home to Manchester City.
But at this early stage in the season, who has shone and who has struggled for The Magpies so far? We have looked at every member of Newcastle’s squad plus any younger players who have made an appearance and ranked and rated them based on their contributions so far.
Ratings also take into account expectations relative to the players in question. For example 17-year-old midfielder Lewis Miley is not expected to produce the same level of performances as £52million summer signing Sandro Tonali.
In total, we have rated 28 Newcastle United players to determine our top performers from the opening 11 matches in all competitions during the opening two months of the season. Ratings will be updated periodically throughout the season.
Here are the ratings in full...

13. Lewis Hall - 6.5
Struggled on his full debut against Man City but scored his first professional goal in the 3-0 win at Manchester United on his second start. Was hardly used for the majority of the season but played a key role when brought into the side during the final two months. | Getty Images

14. Joelinton - 6.5
Joelinton struggled to reach the heights he did in 2022-23, mostly due to injury. While he has put in a couple of credible performances, it was a largely stop-start campaign for the Brazilian who only recently returned from injury. | Getty Images

15. Miguel Almiron - 6.5
Almiron couldn't reach the heights of his exceptional 2022-23 season. He ended the campaign with five goals, including Newcastle's first Champions League goal in over 20 years as he opened the scoring against PSG. Ultimately it was an underwhelming season for the Paraguayan as Newcastle look to strengthen in his position this summer. | Getty Images

16. Jamaal Lascelles - 6.5
Came into the side in Botman’s absence and put in some excellent performances against Manchester City and PSG in particular. His second half of the season was blighted by injury as he is currently sidelined with an ACL issue. | Getty Images
