After losing three of their opening four matches, Newcastle have got things back on track since the last international break with a seven game unbeaten run which included five wins and five clean sheets.
Newcastle have climbed up to eighth in the Premier League table after eight matches while they sit top of their Champions League group after a 0-0 draw at AC Milan and 4-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain at St James’ Park. They also progressed to the last-16 of the Carabao Cup with a 1-0 win at home to Manchester City.
But at this early stage in the season, who has shone and who has struggled for The Magpies so far? We have looked at every member of Newcastle’s squad plus any younger players who have made an appearance and ranked and rated them based on their contributions so far.
Ratings also take into account expectations relative to the players in question. For example 17-year-old midfielder Lewis Miley is not expected to produce the same level of performances as £52million summer signing Sandro Tonali.
In total, we have rated 28 Newcastle United players to determine our top performers from the opening 11 matches in all competitions during the opening two months of the season. Ratings will be updated periodically throughout the season.
Here are the ratings in full...

21. Kieran Trippier - 7.5
Initially raised the bar on the already exceptional standards he set last season with some crucial defensive contributions and impressive attacking output. The chances he created and assists he made during the 2023-24 made Trippier one of Newcastle's most important players. His form did dip drastically during December and he missed the majority of the final months of the season due to a calf injury. | Getty Images

22. Callum Wilson - 7.5
Another injury-hit stop-start campaign for the striker, who still managed to score an impressive 10 goals in just 12 starts. | Getty Images

23. Tino Livramento - 7.5
When on the pitch, Tino Livramento was largely impressive for Newcastle. Named as Newcastle's man of the match on a number of occasions and got a decent run of matches during the second half of the season despite suffering with a niggling ankle injury. | Getty Images

24. Fabian Schar - 8
The Swiss centre-back continued his impressive form from the previous campaign. His stunning strike against Paris Saint-Germain was arguably the highlight of the season. His consistency and ability to impact games positively at both ends of the pitch made him one of Newcastle's most valuable assets. Ended the season with five goals in 47 appearances. While he did struggle at times when Newcastle looked defensively vulnerable against certain sides, his availability during an injury crisis was vital in keeping Newcastle's season on track. | AFP via Getty Images
