The 27 year old was on the verge of joining Manchester United this summer, before the Red Devil’s opted to sign Casemiro from Real Madrid. Despite this, Manchester United remain interested in his services, however, these recent reports, as picked up by TeamTalk, suggest that Newcastle have become ‘serious’ in their intent to sign Rabiot and are reportedly leading the race for his signature.

‘Confidence’ that Leeds United star will sign new deal

According to Graham Bailey, there is ‘confidence’ that Jack Harrison will sign a new deal at Elland Road. Harrison is out of contract at the end of next season and has been attracting attention from Newcastle, however, a new contract with the West Yorkshire side could end the Magpies’ hopes of landing the 26 year old.

Bailey told Team Talk: “And I understand a new deal is firmly on Victor Orta’s agenda. The good news is there is a real confidence that Harrison will put pen to paper sooner rather than later.”

Newcastle United ‘working’ on deal for West Ham starlet

One of the priorities for Newcastle in the upcoming transfer window could be to add youth to their squad with the Magpies reportedly ‘working’ on a deal to sign West Ham defender Harrison Ashby. Ashby is out of contract at the Hammers in the summer and could be allowed to leave the club in January - with Newcastle being long-term admirers of the 21 year old.

The report also states that Leeds United defender Cody Drameh is also someone the Magpies may look to move for next month. Both Ashby and Drameh are viewed as short-term back-up options to Kieran Trippier with a long-term hope they are able to develop into the England defender’s eventual replacement.
