French media claim Newcastle United want PSG forward - club's transfer stance revealed

Newcastle United transfers: Reports from France have linked Newcastle with a Paris Saint-Germain forward.

Newcastle United have no interest in signing Paris Saint-Germain youngster Pierre Mounguengue, despite reports from France linking him with a move.

Reports from France linked the Magpies with a free transfer for the 18-year-old forward, who is out of contract at the end of the month.

RMC Sport claimed Newcastle and Strasbourg were monitoring the France Under-18 international, who made his senior debut for PSG last month.

The Gazette understands Newcastle have no interest in signing the forward but are exploring various European markets for young talent. Newcastle tried to sign 20-year-old Kees Smit from AZ Alkmaar in January but were unable to strike a deal with the Dutch side.

Club sources have since ruled out a move for the Netherlands international amid interest from several top European sides.

But that hasn’t stopped Newcastle from striking a deal for highly-rated France youth international Ewen Jaouen from Stade de Reims. The club are also pushing to sign 22-year-old winger Victor Munoz from Osasuna.

It marks a change in approach to transfers from Newcastle this summer, with the club shopping in a different market compared to previous windows. It’s the first summer transfer window under new sporting director Ross Wilson, with head of recruitment Steve Nickson and senior football executive Andy Howe also playing pivotal roles in the recruitment drive and identification of talent.

Newcastle have already agreed two major deals this summer with Anthony Gordon leaving to join Barcelona for £70million and Jaouen joining for around £18million. The transfer window is set to officially open on June 15.
