'I had calls' - The former Newcastle United duo who influenced deadline day exit

Sean Neave has joined former Newcastle United teammates Kieran Trippier and John Ruddy at Wolves.

Sean Neave has revealed that former Newcastle United duo Kieran Trippier and John Ruddy were key in his decision to join Wolverhampton Wanderers on a season-long loan.

Trippier and Ruddy left the Magpies at the end of their contracts in June, then swiftly reunited at Molineux. Neave later arrived on transfer deadline day in search of more regular minutes.

The 19-year-old made his Premier League and Champions League debuts last season and remained around the first team during pre-season, but would likely have spent this campaign with the under-21s had he stayed.

Sean Neave on joining Wolverhampton Wanderers

Neave believes he is ready for the “next challenge” and believes Wolves is a strong fit as they target an immediate return to the Premier League.

“Newcastle is my home club, so playing and training with players I’ve been watching since I was young has been a good feeling,” Neave said. “But I feel like now I’m ready for the next challenge. At Wolves, I feel like I’ve got that here.

“Last season I was getting myself really frustrated because I didn’t really get much of a chance. I was training in that environment a lot.

“I know I’m ready for the next challenge, so it was frustrating not to play, but if I can get some game time here and show what I’m worth, then it’s going to be a good season.

“It was one of the main things I was looking for. Coming out of on loan, I just want to be playing football week in, week-out at a top club. I feel like if I work hard, I can get that here at Wolves and hopefully I can get some game time throughout the season.”

Kieran Trippier and John Ruddy influence

On Trippier and Ruddy’s influence, Neave said: “They were top figures at Newcastle, senior players there and they’ll be senior players here too. I looked up to them a lot at Newcastle and they helped me a lot through my journey.

“John and Tripps, they’re both really sound lads. They’re willing to take questions if I’m asking them. I feel like they were a big part of my journey in Newcastle.

“I spoke to John before I had the calls and he was basically saying like ‘the club is keen to get you [on board] and you’ll suit our style of play’. He really pushed the club for me to come, so I appreciate that from him.”
