'Quality' - Wolves manager explains why Sean Neave joined from Newcastle United on loan
Newcastle United transfers: Wolverhampton Wanderers head coach Cesar Peixoto has shed light on the decision to sign Sean Neave on loan.
Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Cesar Peixoto insists Sean Neave has a ‘very important’ role to play at the club this season after joining from Newcastle United on loan.
It’s the 19-year-old forward’s first loan spell of his career and comes after he made his Premier League and Champions League debuts for Newcastle last season.
Neave remains highly rated by Newcastle and was available to leave on loan to gain regular first-team experience during the 2026/27 campaign. So there was some surprise when the teenager joined a Wolves side eyeing promotion from the Championship, with two experienced forwards, Raul Jimenez and Adam Armstrong, already at the club.

Despite having a League One loan lined up, Neave joined as Wolves’ third-choice striker but came off the bench to make his debut in the 2-2 draw at Birmingham City last time out in the Championship. The newly-relegated side currently sit ninth in the table with eight points from their opening five league matches.
But the Wolves head coach claims Neave will have plenty of first-team opportunities at Molineux this season.
“He has quality and a lot of hunger, he is very very important for us,” said Peixoto via Inside Wolves. “To be the third striker behind Raul and Adam Armstrong, you have to have a lot of patience.
“He has to take the minutes given to him with the right hunger. He has quality and the character I want to have in the team.”
“In his position with the two guys in front of him, it is important to work hard during the week and during the season to wait for the right moment to play.
“Mateus Mane is 18 and plays in the starting 11 all the time, the same goes for Fer Lopez and Jordan James who are 22.
“If I see in the training session, he deserves the opportunity, I’m going to put him on the pitch for sure, I don’t have any doubts about that.”
Next up for Wolves is a trip to Sheffield United this weekend. Neave is one of several youngsters out on loan this season with Alex Murphy at Kaiserslautern, Antonio Cordero at Cadiz, Anthony Munda at Swindon Town, Rory Finneran at Notts County, Leo Shahar at Arouca and Ousmane Diabaté at Gençlerbirliği.
