Steve Bruce – who had Jetro Willems and Danny Rose on loan last season – is in the market for a left-back this season.

Rose, 29, told of his keenness to make the move permanent last season after being frozen out at Tottenham Hotspur by Jose Mourinho. However, the club has also been assessing other options, and the Gazette understands that Newcastle made an offer for 24-year-old Giannoulis, who has won seven caps for Greece and is also a target for Watford.

Eintracht Frankfurt’s Willems – who ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in January – is continuing his rehabilitation as he enters the final year of his contract at the Bundesliga club.
