Newcastle United takeover: Deal could still happen despite relegation from the Premier League
A report by the Daily Telegraph claimed conversations over the takeover bid, led by PCP Partners, the Reuben brothers and PIF, have been halted due to the threat of dropping into the Championship.
One of the biggest fears voiced by supporters is relegation will lead to Amanda Staveley and co calling quits on the potential takeover.
However, according to the Independent, sources close to the situation maintain that all parties in the consortium would still be interested, even if the Magpies drop into the second-tier.
That said, a price renegotiation would be required to take place if United go down, “but the figures are straightforward and that would not take long”.
Finance expert Kieran Maguire believes owner Mike Ashley could be forced to lower his asking price by £100million.
The Gazette understands PIF have given their word to the consortium that they will return to the takeover process if a path to the deal is cleared.
There are also understood to be other confidential financial guarantees between the three parties involved in the United deal.
But whether a deal can ever be waved through remains to be seen as Newcastle supporters continue to pray for a positive outcome.
Rumours on Wednesday suggested PIF were interested in purchasing a Serie A side giants Inter Milan.
