The petition, signed by 21,500 people, is set to be presented to fellow MPs on Wednesday evening. It brings to light fan concerns about the transparency of the league following on from inability to make a decision on the proposed takeover of Newcastle United by PCP Capital Partners, the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia and the Reuben Brothers.

Onwurah tweeted: “I will be presenting my #NUFC petition, calling for greater accountability and transparency from the @premierleague to Parliament on Wednesday at around 7pm. Thank you to the 21,500 who have signed it!”

The presentation can be watched here.

Meanwhile, United’s Carabao Cup second round clash at Blackburn Rovers has been set for Tuesday, September 15, 7.30pm KO.

On the transfer front, the Magpies have been linked to two fresh players this afternoon – but reports suggest they’re about to miss out on the duo to other Premier League clubs.

Michy Batshuayi and Fikayo Tomori are both set to leave Chelsea on loan this window and have reportedly been interesting Newcastle this window.

But ESPN report Tomori will join Everton on loan following the arrival of Thiago Silva to Stamford Bridge, while forward Batshuayi looks set for a return to Crystal Palace on a season-long loan, having spent last season in south London.
