Reports this week claimed United were interested in the AS Roma and Turkey international winger – but Italian outlet Calciomercato believe it’s now just a two-way battle for the 23-year-old.

United are well-stocked in the wide areas following the arrival of Scotland international Ryan Fraser and the return of Jacob Murphy from a loan spell with Sheffield Wednesday.

And while Murphy could be allowed to leave, so too Christian Atsu, United are not thought to be prioritising the strengthening of that department in the final weeks of the summer window.

A loan striker and central defender are two areas the club’s transfer team are looking to fill.

Atsu is interesting nine-in-a-row Scottish Premiership champions Celtic, who’ve cut their cloth to suit following their recent Champions League exit.
