Newcastle United confirmed line-up v Bournemouth: 16y/o called-up & £120m duo start for first time
Newcastle United v Bournemouth team news: Eddie Howe has made several changes for the FA Cup third round clash.
Newcastle United host AFC Bournemouth in the FA Cup third round at St James’ Park this afternoon (3pm kick-off).
The Magpies head into the game on the back of three straight Premier League wins that have seen the side climb up to sixth in the table.
Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe has never beaten his former club in the Premier League with his only victory against The Cherries coming in the Carabao Cup in December 2022 en route to the final.
Howe has several injury concerns to deal with at the moment with Dan Burn, Fabian Schar, William Osula, Emil Krafth, Jamaal Lascelles and Anthony Elanga unavailable.
Eddie Howe issues Fabian Schar injury update
Schar was stretchered off with an ankle injury against Leeds United on Wednesday night and is now facing an extended spell on the sidelines despite Howe issuing a positive injury update ahead of the Bournemouth match.
“Hopefully not too bad, or maybe not as bad as it first looked,” Howe said. “That's the initial sort of assessment from Fabian.
“He's got obviously an injury there, but no break. We think it's just ligaments, ligament damage. We'll be seeing a specialist in the next few days to get sort of definitive answers, but maybe more positive than the initial assessment.”
Newcastle’s other centre-back options are limited with Dan Burn currently out with a rib injury and Sven Botman having only just returned from a back problem. And Howe has turned to 19-year-old Lewis Miley as an emergency centre-back option.

Newcastle United youngsters called-up v Bournemouth
Given the injury absences, Howe has turned to several young players to bolster his squad for the FA Cup third round clash.
16-year-old Sam Alabi and 18-year-old Sean Neave have been drafted into the squad in place of Schar and Jacob Murphy, who has dropped out of the side.
Murphy had been nursing a minor hamstring issue but came off the bench in the 4-3 win over Leeds on Wednesday.

It’s the first time Wissa and Woltemade have started a game together since their £120million double summer transfer arrival.
