Newcastle United summer signings spotted at Gateshead as fresh fitness concerns revealed - confirmed XI
Newcastle United team news v Gateshead: Newcastle have arrived for their first public pre-season match.
Newcastle United will face Gateshead in their first public pre-season friendly ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
The Magpies beat Darlington 3-0 in a behind-closed-doors friendly last week at The KNOX and arrived at the Gateshead International Stadium to step up their preparations.
Newcastle have been boosted by the signing of Aladji Bamba ahead of the match but the 20-year-old new arrival was part of the squad. Neither was Bazoumana Toure nor the other Newcastle players who had been away at the 2026 World Cup.
Eddie Howe’s side welcomed Fabian Schar back to the squad for the first time since his ankle injury in January, while Joelinton remained sidelined after missing the Darlington match. Summer signings Ewen Jaouen and Sean Steur were with the squad, heavily supplemented by Under-21s players.
There was also no Tino Livramento or Lewis Miley as they continue their recovery from injury. But there was no William Osula after scoring against Darlington and being confirmed as the club’s No. 10 for the upcoming season while Sven Botman is also out.
