Newcastle United new captain revealed at Millwall - it's not Fabian Schar or Jacob Murphy

Newcastle United team news v Millwall: Yoane Wissa is named as captain as Matthias Jaissle makes three changes.

Matthias Jaissle has made three changes to his Newcastle United side for Tuesday night’s Carabao Cup third-round clash at Millwall.

Jacob Murphy, Jacob Ramsey and Fabian Schar come into the side in place of Anthony Elanga, Lewis Miley and Malick Thiaw. Yoane Wissa has been named as captain for the night.

It’s the first time the forward has worn the armband and has been selected ahead of Jacob Murphy and Schar, both of whom have worn the armband previously.

The Magpies head into the game looking to continue their unbeaten start under Jaissle and progress to the last 16 of the Carabao Cup for the fifth successive season.

Newcastle are without the injured Dan Burn, William Osula, Joelinton and Ewen Jaouen for the match at The Den as expected. Jaouen’s injury sees Nick Pope keep his place in the matchday squad but Jaissle has made the decision to stick with Lukas Hornicek in goal.

It will be Jaissle’s first taste of a midweek away day as Newcastle head coach, with Millwall sure to provide a hostile reception for his side.

“There will be a bit of a special atmosphere down there,” Jaissle said. “I'm aware of that, but it doesn't influence my coaching, but it should not influence the players. We need to have the focus on the pitch, what we can influence, and if we're doing a good job, then we can go a round further.”
