Not just Amar Dedic - Newcastle United plan 17-day transfer assault to back Matthias Jaissle

Newcastle United supporters should rightfully feel concerned but club sources insist there will be a big push for incomings in the final 17 days of the window.

Amar Dedic will be announced as a Newcastle United player - and the clear message being fired out is that they are not done yet.

The Gazette cheekily teased a question about the Benfica right-back to Matthias Jaissle following the 3-1 loss to Everton last week. A pause, wry smile and straight bat from the German followed as he refused to take the bait.

It is now understood that Newcastle will confirm Dedic their sixth summer signing. The Bosnian international is on Tyneside, completing a medical earlier today ahead of a £30million move.

But as it stands, his arrival will not prevent the Magpies from stumbling into the Premier League season. More reinforcements are required. That was evident following the consecutive home defeats at the weekend that were hardly the ideal antidote to a bruising summer window.

A radical transfer strategy has resulted in Newcastle replacing established international stars like Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes with inexperienced fledglings. Eddie Howe walked - with Jaissle the man now steering the Toon rebuild.

As supporters trudged out of St James’ Park after a penalty shoot-out defeat to Strasbourg, the blow was somewhat softened by news of Dedic’s imminent arrival. Toon fans can also take solace in the fact that the recruitment drive is not over.

Sources at the club insisted over the weekend that Newcastle are ready to attack the final 17 days of the window to give Jaissle the tools needed for the upcoming campaign. Specific players were not named, but it is understood that the Magpies remain in the market for an experienced midfielder.

Jaissle adopts a 4-2-3-1 system but, as it stands, does not have a No.10 in his ranks. Nick Woltemade, Yoane Wissa and Joe Willock have all occupied the role in Jaissle’s first three games at the helm.

The growing consensus within St James’ Park is that Newcastle need a talisman capable of scoring and creating. Time is running out - just over two weeks of the window remain. Newcastle are desperately short as the opener against Liverpool becomes more daunting by the day.

The message from the top, though, is that the Magpies will fight to strengthen the squad right up until the September 3 deadline. Optimism is being urged. But with just six days until the Premier League season kicks off, supporters are entitled to feel concerned about where Newcastle currently stand.
