'Best possible way' - Matthias Jaissle statement suggests Newcastle United exit likely this summer
Newcastle United goalkeeper Nick Pope could be heading for the St James’ Park exit.
Matthias Jaissle has hinted at Nick Pope being allowed to leave Newcastle United this summer.
The 34-year-old was not in the matchday squad as the Magpies beat Valencia 2-1 on Saturday. However, unlike Tino Livramento, Lewis Hall, Lewis Miley and Fabian Schar - all lacking fitness - he did attend the Mestalla Stadium.
This begged the question as to whether Pope is nearing a St James’ Park exit. As reported by The Gazette earlier this summer, Newcastle are open to offers for the veteran goalkeeper.

Nick Pope situation
Lukas Hornicek and Ewen Jaouen have arrived and look set to challenge for the No.1 jersey. Pope has been the undisputed first-choice keeper since 2022 and was pivotal to two Champions League qualifications and the Carabao Cup success.
However, several high-profile errors over the last 12 months made the need for a new goalie a priority. Toon chiefs have acted to bring two young shot-stoppers to the club - with Pope now deemed surplus to requirements.
Matthias Jaissle on Nick Pope
Speaking to reporters, Jaissle revealed a conversation with Pope that suggests he will be allowed to move on. The German was complimentary of his previous achievements on Tyneside.
"I had a talk with Nick,” he said. “I really appreciate what he has done in his career so far. He knows exactly the situation right now and we need to deal with it in the best possible way, but I always appreciate the player and the human being behind."
