The midfielder was backed to move to Old Trafford back in the summer but ended up remaining at St James’s Park as Steve Bruce took over managerial duties from Rafa Benitez.

Goal claim the Red Devils are no longer keen on bringing the 22-year-old to Old Trafford and also claimed that Longstaff actually rejected the advances of United in order to stay at Newcastle.

According to the Telegraph, Newcastle United have made loan offers for Chelsea duo Olivier Giroud and Michy Batshuayi with Bruce looking to bolster his attacking options after £40m summer signing Joelinton’s recent poor run of form.

Joelinton missed the best of United’s chances against Rochdale in the FA Cup. Reflecting on the draw, Bruce said: “The frailties are there. You can’t dominate a game like that and miss the chance we did.”

Elsewhere, it’s being claimed by The Sun that the Magpies are in talks to sign AC Milan’s £30m-rated striker Krzysztof Piatek and are hoping to land the player on loan with an option to buy.

And Bruce says Newcastle United have already had two transfer blows. He said: “We’ve had a couple of knock-backs already. We’ll keep working away. It’s very, very difficult. I won’t just bring in players for the sake of it. We’ll see what the next two or three weeks bring.”

And according to the Lancashire Post, Preston North End are eyeing a move for striker Dwight Gayle.
