Steve Bruce’s side were on course for another damning defeat in their battle against Premier League relegation until Allan Saint-Maximin’s introduction.

Within the space of a minute, the Frenchman had assisted Jacob Murphy’s equaliser before netting a superb solo effort to clinch a valuable victory.

Here’s the latest gossip surrounding Newcastle this evening:

Newcastle to ‘scout’ Turkish goalkeeper

Newcastle United are among three Premier League teams ready to scout Fenerbahce goalkeeper Altay Bayindir, according to reports in Turkey.

The 22-year-old is set to start in Fenerbahce’s Super Lig clash with Gaziantep tonight, and as per Takvim, Magpies scouts will be watching on.

However, they aren’t the only team – Aston Villa, Crystal Palace are monitoring his progress, while Ajax are also taking an interest.

Bayindir is reportedly valued at £12million and has started all but one of Fenerbahce’s 32 league matches this season, keeping 10 clean sheets.

Sunderland legend warns defender off Newcastle switch

Sunderland legend Kevin Phillips has urged on-loan defender Dion Sanderson not to sign for Newcastle United this summer.

Football Insider reported over the weekend that United were monitoring the Wolves man, who is relishing his season-long loan spell on Wearside.

Crystal Palace, Huddersfield Town and Sheffield United are all understood to be keeping tabs on the 21-year-old.

And Phillips has urged Sanderson not to cross the Tyne-Wear divide – insisting it’s not “worth the hassle”.

He said: “Sanderson would be a very brave lad if he was to step across and play for Newcastle after playing for Sunderland.

“My advice to him would be, ‘ Don’t do it!’ It would not be worth the hassle.

“He has proven this season that he is going to get better and better. It will not be just Newcastle sniffing around him, I am sure there will be a few other clubs as well.

“It is going to be difficult for Sunderland to sign him permanently this summer but I would be very surprised if he went to Newcastle, put it that way.”
