Steve Bruce is eyeing some new additions to his squad this summer, ahead of a window in which a number of clubs may be unable to splash the cash having played the vast majority of the 2020/21 without fans.

Reports have suggested that Newcastle United could be lining-up TWO defensive swoops this summer.

Southampton’s Yan Valery is reportedly on Steve Bruce’s radar, with Foot Mercato claiming that the Magpies and Ligue 1 side Marseille are both keen on a summer move for the youngster.

Valery, 22, spent the second half of the season on loan at Birmingham City and reports have suggested he is valued at around £5million.

And central defender Abdul Mumin has also been linked with a move to Tyneside.

The 22-year-old currently plays for Vitoria in the Portuguese top flight and has caught the eye this season with his athleticism and pace.

Newcastle and Aston Villa have been linked with Mumin – who has a valuation of around £15million – but it’s Tottenham Hotspur who are leading the race, according to TeamTalk.

Bosman boost for Steve Bruce?

Steve Bruce has made no secret of the fact that he feels clubs will be looking at the free agent market this summer.

"Every club will be the same,” he said recently.

“They’ll be looking at Bosmans, which are always attractive for obvious reasons.

"But I have to say to everybody, I can't see there been swathes of money anywhere in the Premier League. The discussions I've had with other managers, the situation is the same. The football world has lost millions during Covid. I can't see a load of money being spent this summer."

And one player who has been linked with a free transfer move to St James’s Park is Andros Townsend – with The Times now reporting that he is likely to leave Crystal Palace when his contract expires this summer.
