Newcastle United will look to strengthen in January but hopes of bringing Granit Xhaka to Tyneside on loan have been dented.
There are fresh reports this morning that Arsenal are instead hoping to use the Swiss international as a makeweight in deals of their own.
Arsenal are keen to add Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria.
Newcastle are among a host of clubs monitoring Xhaka with his Arsenal career seemingly over after he disrespected his own fans.
