Goalless and toothless at the break, you could argue there was a marked improvement at the Emirates in comparison to the very low base set at Bramall Lane. But in the second half, as United retreated further and further back, the wheels came off.
Who performed best and who had a shocker? Here’s Miles Starforth’s player ratings...
9. Joelinton - 3
Lethargic on the left, offered little with and without the ball to justify his selection. Photo: Catherine Ivill
10. Andy Carroll - 5
Paired up front with Wilson after sitting the game out at Bramall Lane, a handful for Arsenal’s defence before the break. Photo: Pool
11. Callum Wilson - 5
Didn't get a chance to add to his eight goals, had to come deep looking for the ball. Photo: Pool
12. Jacob Murphy - 5
(for Carroll, 69) Fresh legs when United needed them. Photo: Catherine Ivill
