Wilson suffered a hamstring injury in Friday night’s 2-0 defeat to Southampton at the St Mary’s Stadium. The striker, Newcastle’s leading scorer, limped off in the 78th minute, and there are fears that Wilson is facing a number of weeks on the sidelines.

Bruce was angered by his team’s performance in the behind-closed-doors Premier League game, and United's head coach says positions are “up for grabs” in the November 21 home fixture against Chelsea.

“I’ll dwell on it,” said Bruce, who had lost Ryan Fraser, also to a hamstring injury, on the eve of the game. “There’s certainly positions up for grabs, that’s for sure. We just have to wait until the internationals come back, it’s as simple as that. It’s a long time to wait.”

Newcastle are 13th in the table with 11 points.
