And despite taking the lead at League One Rochdale, United were pegged back as Sunderland’s third tier rivals earned a St James’s Park draw.

Here’s what #NUFC Twitter had to say about the 1-1 draw…

@evan_kiropoulos – “Joelinton is the result of having people without football knowledge deciding who a club signs. £40 million for someone who can’t hit the net on a one on one?”

@MarkWatson91 - “Why is Joelinton still getting a game for Newcastle United. The man is up there with the worst strikers I've ever seen, send him back to where we got him. Give a young lad from the reserves a shot because they cant be any worse!”

@Tweets_By_Phil ƤӇƖԼ – “When #nufc bought Joelinton they should have checked the small print. #batteriesnotincluded.”

@ConnorAngus95 – We spent 40mil on Joelinton who makes Heskey look like prime R9. Absolute shambles of a club. Ashley has taken the love I have for the club. Could’ve spent 15mil on Rondon who guaranteed us goals in the league.”

@MarkMazzocchi – “Is Joelinton worth £40m? Absolutely not. Is Joelinton a striker? Probably not. Does he play like a Sunday league player? Yes.

@Jamesharr1985 - “I hope it was 40m Yen we paid for Joelinton. I’d rather have Daryl a Murphy back.”

@jongelda89 - “See a lot of stick for joelinton today? What about the other ten?”

@WillMatthews87 – “Imagine... we had Rondon... who scored goals & worked hard... and we DIDN’T sign him... #Goodbusiness.”
