Revealing clip posted online of Newcastle United's Graeme Jones working with England's Euro 2020 squad
Graeme Jones brought what Steve Bruce described as “fresh ideas” to Newcastle United’s training ground last season – and those ideas helped keep the club in the Premier League.
Jones – who was a vocal figure on the touchline after arriving in January – accepted a very different challenge this summer. England manager Gareth Southgate recruited Jones to his coaching team ahead of Euro 2020.
The Football Association have posted a video on YouTube of Jones working with Southgate’s squad ahead of Friday’s Group D game against Scotland at Wembley. Jones sets up a shooting challenge for Marcus Rashford, Jack Grealish and Jordan Henderson among others – and one player, in particular, catches the eye with a stunning volley.
The drill is an insight into the unseen work 51-year-old Jones did with Newcastle’s players after answering Bruce’s mid-season call. At the time, the club was on an 11-game winless run.
