Tonali is under investigation for alleged illegal betting activity with fresh reports from Italy suggesting prosecutors are close to a verdict. Sky Sports have echoed the claims that the 23-year-old could be facing a 10-month ban from football, which could be announced before Wednesday’s match (8pm kick-off).
The midfielder came off the bench to a warm reception in Saturday’s 4-0 win over Crystal Palace at St James’ Park. Tonali is still eligible to play matches for Newcastle before a verdict is reached.
