The point against the Blues meant the Magpies finished the season in 4th place having already secured their return to the Champions League earlier in the week. It was a party atmosphere in the capital and a fitting end to what has been a tremendous season.
The Magpies were very worthy of their position in the top-four and with an appearance at Wembley also occurring during the season, it has been a very successful one for them on the pitch.
Here, we take a look at 11 key moments from the season to document where Newcastle’s fortunes, in both league and cup, were transformed:

5. Blyth lad breaks Leicester City hearts
Dan Burn’s first goal in a Newcastle United shirt helped the Magpies progress into the Carabao Cup Quarter-Final and was a moment few will forget in a hurry. His dance moves in the changing rooms have been immortalised on social media. | Getty Images

6. Mitrovic double-hit
After back to back goalless draws to Leeds and Arsenal and an FA Cup defeat away at Sheffield Wednesday, Newcastle hosted in-form Fulham needing a win to get their season back on track. They managed that, but only because of a late Alexander Isak strike that secured all three points - something that might not have happened had Aleksandar Mitrovic not seen his penalty ruled-out after he accidentally struck the ball twice. | Getty Images

7. Late, late Alexander Isak show
Newcastle’s trip to the City Ground in March was a very memorable one. The Magpies dominated their hosts, but found themselves one down following a mistake by Sven Botman. Up stepped Alexander Isak to level the game in first-half added time before colly slotting home a very late penalty to seal all three points. 8. Red Devils dispatched
Their next game after that win over Forest was a huge clash against Manchester United - their main Champions League rivals and the side that had broken hearts at Wembley just over a month previous. However, at St James’ Park, Newcastle were simply sensational and never gave their opponents a sniff to record a hugely important victory. | AFP via Getty Images
