The point against the Blues meant the Magpies finished the season in 4th place having already secured their return to the Champions League earlier in the week. It was a party atmosphere in the capital and a fitting end to what has been a tremendous season.
The Magpies were very worthy of their position in the top-four and with an appearance at Wembley also occurring during the season, it has been a very successful one for them on the pitch.
Here, we take a look at 11 key moments from the season to document where Newcastle’s fortunes, in both league and cup, were transformed:

10. Bruno’s Brighton strike
Champions League hopes were on the line when Brighton came to the north east in May. The Seagulls held Champions League dreams of their own and had just defeated Arsenal 3-0 - setting up an incredibly tense affair at St James’ Park. After a bright start that saw them go 2-0 ahead at half-time, Newcastle let their opponents back into the game early in the second period. However, a late Callum Wilson strike sealed the win. But the best was still to come when Bruno Guimaraes added a fourth goal - one that sent St James’ Park into rapture and elicited massive celebration both on the pitch and in the stands. 11. Pope denies Castagne
That win over Brighton, coupled with Liverpool slipping up against Aston Villa two days later, meant the Magpies needed just a point against Leicester to secure Champions League football. Despite a dominant display, Newcastle couldn’t get themselves ahead of the game and headed into injury-time still goalless. The Foxes hadn’t troubled Pope at all throughout the match, until midway through added time when a Timothy Castagne volley elicited a great save from him.
